Patrick McGoohan RIP

Actor Patrick McGoohan died yesterday at the age of 80. He was the star of the TV shows Secret Agent and The Prisoner. He helped create the latter series, and wrote many of the episodes.

I have many fond memories of the Prisoner. It ran on CBS as a summer replacement series in 1968. You can't imagine how blown away a ten year old boy used to nothing more groundbreaking than My Favorite Martian was by this show.It was the coolest thing I had seen on TV at the time and it hasn't gotten much competition since then. I bought season one on DVD a few years ago,and it has held up pretty well. The show's catchphrase "I am not a number, I am a free man" is more relevant than ever, and that big white blob that chases people will always be cool.

Here's a video I found. It's basically a couple of promos glued together, which between them have all the trademark features of the series. Enjoy.

So long Patrick. Thanks for making my childhood so much cooler.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I didn't know this actor, but it sounds like you really enjoyed his work.
