Writer's Block: Le Quatorze Juillet

Happy Bastille Day! Today the French celebrate the event that sparked the French revolution. In honor of our Francophone friends, what is your favorite French thing? Bonus points for answers en français.
I haven't had a huge exposure to French culture, but I enjoyed reading Voltaire's Candide and Rabelais's Gargantua And Pantagruel in translation. It's pretty clear to me that the title character of Candide, with his foolish innocence that remains intact in the face of enormous horrors, was the inspiration for Butters on Southpark. Read it (or reread it) and I think you will agree.

Gargantua and Pantagruel is a story about giants, and has lots of bathroom humor. Bathroom humor is always funny, but it's even funnier when giants are involved. This is a work that appeals to the 12-year-old in me AND to the literary snob in me. It's hard to pull off both of those. Thus, it is a great literary work.
