Found Poems

I spent about 6 hours the other day cleaning up my office, and I found a couple of hand-written poems I'd written a long time ago. They're not great, but IMHO they are good enough to be worth keeping.

The first one is a baiku.

King

I've captured the flag
What now? I'm king of the hill
But the hill is small

Adulthood's a drag
Be warned, child: You'll grow, but still
You will not stand tall

The second one is just an exercise in writing heroic couplets

Untitled
I'd like to write a poem that doesn't suck
I tell myself I only need some luck
But I can't make myself believe the lie
That decent verse will fall out of the sky
And land, well-formed, well-written on the page
Well spoken as an actor on the stage
And so I put upon the discard shelf
The notion that a poem will write itself

Right, poems never do that, nor do novels. :)

"Adulthood's a drag
Be warned, child: You'll grow, but still
You will not stand tall"

Frankly, I sometimes think I've been like that. And I'm very short so I'll never stand tall anyway. :)
