Sunday Evening

Elle and I had planned to go see The Informant this weekend, but Sunday morning she called me and offered me a second option. She asked
me if I would rather come to her house and have dinner and watch the DVD of Expelled I had given her for her birthday.

I hadn't been over to Elle's house in a long time, and she'd been wanting me to see the improvements she'd made for quite some time now. After throwing in the combined allure of Ben Stein and Elle's cooking, it was an easy decision.

Her house really did look nice. She'd replaced the wall paper with paint and had gotten some new furniture. Actually, I had always thought her house looked really cool. It was built in the 19th century and had a very unique look to it (even for an old house. ) I hate being so vague in describing such a cool house, but I don't want to give too good a description of the place she lives on the internet.

We had chicken cacciatore. She said it reminded her of a shaggy dog story my father used to tell that ended with "Chicken catch a tory". I think it had something to do with the revolutionary war.

Anyway, it was delicious. She'd also made me some cookies. YUM.

The movie was good. It had enough detail that it made me want to watch it again. For those not familiar, it is a documentary dealing with the creationism/intelligent design debate. And of course the theism/atheism debate entered into it.It did seem to make a good case that critics of Darwinism do not get a fair shake. It also did a good job of exploring the philosophical issues surrounding the debate. One critic said that those who say that science has disproved God are making a metaphysical statement, not a scientific one. I agree with this, and consider it one of the more important points in the debate.

Expelled did not completely debunk Darwinism, but I don't think that was it's purpose. It mostly gave more consideration to the less fashionable side of the debate. It was an enjoyable movie. One of the best parts were Stein's closing words...any fan of his, regardless of their stand on this debate, would get a kick out of them.
