I got the day off to a good start with a large redeye (coffee plus espresso shot)

I heard on the radio as I was driving to work that both today and tomorrow are anniversaries of
tragedies. Today is the anniversary of the Apollo 1 fire that killed astronauts. I remember hearing about that during current events time in 3rd grade. I heard about the death of Walt Disney the same way.

Wow. I sure learned a lot about death in that class. To complete the hat trick, Mrs. Hersey (our teacher) read "Charlotte's Web" to us. Charlotte of course, died in the end and we are all devastated. Maybe someday I will write a children's book called "Mrs. Hersey's Hat Trick Of Death". Or maybe that's a screenplay.

Anyway, tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the Challenger 10 explosion. This may be the first big news event I heard about over a computer network. I was sitting in a lab and someone sent an email with the subject line "Space Shuttle...TERRIBLE NEWS". That's my "where were you when you heard" story for the Challenger disaster.

A schoolteacher , Christine McAuliffe was on board and was of course killed. Reagan spoke to the nation. I will never forget him quoting John Magee's poem:

'We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved good-bye and "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God." '

It still sends chills down my spine.

On a more mundane note, my Cashin' In portfolio is up for the day, and I am still beating all of the Cashin' In panelists and the S&P for the year. My RL trading portfolio is up 1.85% for the day, beating all the major indices. (NASDAQ is beat at 1.10%)

I am not going to say hooray for me yet. It is only 10:43.
