A Political Rant About An Admittedly Moot Issue

The moot issue is the Christine O'Donnell campaign, which is now over. The reason for the rant now is a conversation I had a few days ago with a liberal friend (I'll call him Mike) I was discussing the election with.

Mike told me that Christine O'Donnell was asked if she could name a single Democratic senator, and she couldn't. That's a pretty damning charge. He went on to say "you can tell people that Christine O'Donnell can't name a single Democratic senator, and they'll still vote for her. Facts don't matter to some people."

I have to admit I didn't follow the O'Donnell campaign very closely. And although Mike gets things wrong sometimes, he doesn't make them up out of whole cloth. So I did a little googling and found the video below:

I'll admit Ms.O'Donnell doesn't look very good in this interview. Mentioning Hillary Clinton makes it look like she is trying to wiggle out of the question.

The trouble is, she wasn't asked if she could name a single Democratic senator. She's asked if she could name a single Democratic senator SHE COULD WORK  WITH. That's a very different question. And her opponent seems to understand that. He chides her for her unwillingness to reach across the aisle. He does not chide her for being ignorant.

So it is not a fact at all that O'Donnell can't name a single Democratic senator. If people disregard this charge, it's because they either know it's not true or don't believe it. It's not because they don't care about facts. This looks like another case of lies, damn lies, and facts.
