Writer's Block: Agree to disagree

Have you ever stopped being friends with someone over differences in political views? Are there any issues that are so important to you that you cannot be friends with someone who holds a contrary opinion?

If I did that, I would have to stop having friends. I think most people who read my journal would say that "conservative" (or libertarian, depends on which issue or which day of the week) is the best label for me. But since I teach at a university and live in a university area, most of my friends are liberals. On facebook, my friend stats are 73% democrat and 27% republican.

I'm pretty sure I would never end a friendship over a political issue. Probably the issue I've been most obsessive about was the impeachment of Bill Clinton in the 90's, and I got into some very angry heated debates about that with friends. But no matter how many sparks flew, I always parted friends with these people. So unless I find something I'm even more passionate about, I don't think I'll ever dump a friend over politics.

Hahahaha, my friend stats are 100% Democrat, even though I know I have some conservative church-going friends (on Facebook). So I wouldn't rely on Facebook too much. :D
