Dinner last night

As I mentioned in my last entry, I had dinner with spookyelectric1 , queenjoni , and muffdaddysmooth at Landmark last night. It was great to see all of them. It's been a while since I saw queenjoni and her lovely husband muffdaddysmooth and it has been even longer, way too long, since I have seen spookyelectric. It may have been over a year, and dining with her was a treat.

The food was good, and since it's been so long since we got together there was plenty of conversation. One topic was a mutual aquaintance of ours whom I'll call Hank. He has this unfortunate habit of stepping on anything anybody says that makes them look good. He has insecurity issues that tend to make him put other people down. Everyone seemed to agree.

But we talked about things besides other peoples character flaws. We also chatted about muffdaddy's blooming photography career. It really seems to have given him a lot of direction in life. I am not an expert on photography, but he seems to have a lot of knowledge about the subject. And I know he does good work, because I have seen a lot of it. (He took a picture of me that can be found in a previous entry.)

He'd had some surgery for visual problems. He talked about the problems and his progress, and I commented that he was the Beethoven of photography. He chuckled and shook his head that he wasn't. He'd said there have been lots of other photographers with the same problem, such as Albert Watson, who is blind in one eye. "I used to think I was unique, but really I'm not" he said.

He said all this in a  self-effacing manner that can really only be found in self-confident people. He is a useful counter-example to people like our friend Hank. He is the UnHank.
