Two anniversaries(+1)

Longtime readers of this blog (are there such people?) know that I had my last drink on the anniversary of JFK's assassination. I always make an entry on this date to point this out. Especially now that I am doing nablopomo.

Quitting drinking and the assassination of a president are both worth writing about. The trouble is, it is getting harder and harder to find new things to say about either of them. Previous ruminations can be found here and here.

This is my 9th anniversary. Next year will be #10, and so I will have to have something really brilliant to say about my sobriety. I sure hope the pressure doesn't drive me to drink.

I should probably have some words of wisdom for people out there for people with drinking issues, but I don't. My doctor just told me continued drinking would destroy my heart, and that scared me enough to make me quit. Maybe "get regular checkups" is a good rule of thumb.

A couple of other things might be useful. If you have become convinced you have a drinking problem, don't fool around with moderation. It's actually easier to quit completely. Also, if you are still drinking, don't drink during the day. One of the reasons quitting was so easy for me was that  I had a rule against that which I followed pretty scrupulously.

Beyond that, I don't have any one-size-fits all prescriptions. If you have a problem, quit. If you can't quit, get help. If the help you get doesn't work, get some other kind of help. Different things work for different people.

As far as the JFK assassination goes, I remain agnostic. All I know is, I didn't do it. I was 5 years old.

Of course lewrockwell.com has some pieces on it today. For those interested in the conspiracy theories, here are a couple of links:

BONUS ANNIVERSARY

Nov.20th was the 1 year anniversary of Climategate. The AGW skeptic  blog Watts Up WIth That has a pretty comprehensive post about it.
